When consumers use bikes to get around they typically will stay closer to home because of biking distance limitations. I think you bring up a good point in this post about bikes and the economy. By this I mean the fact you pointed out on bikers traveling shorter distances thus supporting local businesses. It is something I did not think about that is having a positive effect.
